October is National Co-op Month, and that spirit is on display in Seneca and Northwest Crawford counties, as Bascom Communications expands its Middle Mile Fiber Project in collaboration with North Central Electric Cooperative.

This $9 Million project, funded in part by a $3 million BroadbandOhio grant, is delivering high-speed fiber Internet to more than 1,400 homes and businesses. Phase 1 includes 148 miles of new fiber in the North Central Electric service territory and is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2026. Already, 250 addresses have been passed, and construction in parts of the rural Attica area is expected to finish by the end of September, adding another 200 locations ready for fiber services.

Fiber broadband means more than faster Internet—it creates opportunities for businesses, families, and entire communities. As General Manager Nate Brickner of Bascom Communications explained, “This project is about more than Internet. It’s about ensuring our county has the infrastructure it needs to thrive. We’re grateful for the support of our fellow cooperative in making this possible.”

This Co-op Month, the project serves as a reminder of the power of cooperation among cooperatives and the lasting benefits it brings to our communities.
